When Offering The Best Price Can Lead To Disaster! |
There are many strange anomalies in the business world, areas and attitudes which are very common, but sometimes difficult to understand. The area of product or service pricing is something which can be very difficult to understand , and an area where common sense often goes out of the window. So what is the best pricing policy? On the surface it should really be supply and demand, although unfortunately it is not always that straight forward. How many times have you been shopping and seen something you like for a ridiculously low price? There are many of us who would just buy and move on, but there are a lot of people who would think, “Hmmm, that is too cheap but why? There must be something wrong with it” and then walk to the next shop, where the same item may be substantially more expensive, but you think “This is the one for me”. Human nature is a very strange thing to understand, we all want the best bargains that we can get, but sometimes we back out if we think something is too cheap. For some reason there are many of us who find comfort in the fact that an item is reasonably priced, therefore it must be better than that one which was ridiculously low priced. Be honest, have you ever done or thought that? Finding a balance between cheapening your service / products and offering the comfort that something higher priced must be better, is a very difficult area for some businesses. However, remember it is much easier to move a price down that put one up. Start high and work your way down until supply actually meets demand - but don’t give it away! |

Affiliate Link Cookies Can Give Away Your Customers |
While the affiliate sales path is a well trodden road to increased income, there are downsides to this type of marketing which some people may not be aware of. Limited cookie times can often mean that you give away your customers cheaply, but is there a way around it? If you are looking at an affiliate program to add to your site, obviously the subject matter will be the most important, and the appeal which it will have to your customers. However, you would also be sensible in considering the length of cookies for many affiliate programs, which can see your affiliates signing up, not buying for a while and you receiving no commission. So how does this work? Lets say that you sign up for an affiliate program which offers a cookie length of some 30 days. If one of your readers clicks through to the site from your affiliate link and signs up, you will receive commission on sales within the first 30 days. If the customer does not buy anything within the 30 day period, or buys more after the 30 day period, you will not receive any commission on those sales and you have “given” away your lead, for potentially no payment! Check the terms of each affiliate program which you join as some will give you indefinite cookie lengths, or a lot longer than just a few days. You have worked hard to bring the readers to your site and the last thing you want to do is point them in the direction of another site for no fee! |
