Why Are Google Set To Bid For Radio Spectrum In the US?
Search Engine Marketing
As if we had not seen enough signs that it was coming, the news that Google are set to bid in the forthcoming American Radio Spectrum auction confirms that their next major venture looks like being a wireless network. So what will this do for Google, and what will it do for their customers?

As the media and the internet continue to converge, the next stage in this development seems to be mobile internet services – an area which Google are already involved in. Does this mean that mobile internet services will be the next stage for the traditional website? Or are Google just putting down a marker for the future?

Further investigation into this announcement indicates that the company are looking to bid in the region of $5 billion for a selection of the spectrum on offer. This is a major investment by any standard and is a definite pointer for the future direction of the internet market. At the moment there are very few companies who have a major presence in the mobile internet market due to the scarcity of acceptable broadband speed. However, if rumours and news from the Far East are anything to go by, this may well be about to change!

Google have yet again stepped in to steal a march on their competitors, the people who seem to follow where Google lead. Such is the power of the company that if they can put the relevant systems in place they will actually dictate the future direction and next growth market of the online business arena.

While Google have been looking to tie-up with mobile phone networks over the last 12 months or so, we may well see a turnaround in this area with other parties looking to tie-up with Google and – assuming that Google’s bid for the radio spectrum is successful – they will yet again hold all of the cards!
